Joanne Thornton holds a Masters Degree in Education from OISE. After teaching the International Baccalaureate program for several years she shifted her focus to teach Canadian and International Law. Her teaching practice focuses on critical thinking and oral advocacy and is the basis for Emond Montgomery's Speaking With A Purpose: A Practical Guide to Oral Advocacy. She is a founding member of the region's annual OBA mock trial competition. In 2009 she was named recipient of the Ontario Justice Education Network's (OJEN) Chief Justices' Award for her exceptional contribution in promoting public understanding of justice education.
