The fourth edition of JoAnn Kurtz's top-selling text Family Law: Practice and Procedure offers a clear and detailed guide to practising family law in Ontario. This manual provides a comprehensive overview of both substantive law and practice and procedure in the area, with a special focus on the practical skills that law clerks require in a family law practice.

The revised edition focuses on updated material that reflect the most recent changes to statutes, Family Law Rules, and the Ontario Child Support Guidelines. More specifically, changes to the text include discussions on the amended Civil Marriages Act, which allows same-sex couples to be divorced in Canada, the amended Children’s Law Reform Act, which requires a person applying for custody to provide, among other things, information on previous involvement in any criminal proceedings and a police record check, and the amended Family Law Rules, which include a new rule relating to claims for custody and access. The text also includes new and revised forms that reflect the changes in family law since the previous edition was published. The new edition contains, in a separate volume, the full text of the federal Marriage Act, Civil Marriage Act, and Divorce Act, as well as the Ontario Child and Family Services Act, Children's Law Reform Act, Family Law Act, Family Responsibility and Support Arrears Enforcement Act, and Child Support Guidelines.
