Linda C. Reif

Linda C. Reif, LLB (University of Windsor), LLM (University of Cambridge), is CN Professor of International Trade at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, and has been a member of the faculty since 1987. Professor Reif publishes in the areas of international business and trade law, national human rights institutions, ombuds institutions, children’s rights institutions, and other areas of international law. Her work appears in Canadian, US, European, and Asia-Pacific publications, including her book, The Ombudsman, Good Governance and the International Human Rights System (Brill/Martinus Nijhoff, 2004, 2nd edition forthcoming in 2020), co-authorship since the 5th edition of International Law: Chiefly as Interpreted and Applied in Canada, and numerous book chapters and law review articles, including in the Harvard Human Rights Journal and Human Rights Law Review. Professor Reif has provided editing, consulting, and academic services to organizations such as the Commonwealth Secretariat, International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), Academic Council on the UN System (ACUNS), Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), and the Uniform Law Conference of Canada. She served as her Faculty’s Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) in 1998–1999 and 2009–2011.
