Charles Lawrence

Chuck Lawrence has been involved in policing since 1970 when he joined the (then) Metropolitan Toronto Police. He spent 12 years (1987 to 2000) as a full-time instructor at the Ontario Police College, and from 2000 until 2010, he was Manager of Training and Development for the Toronto Police Service. He has been a full-time professor of public safety at Sheridan College since 2010 and coordinator of the Police Foundations Diploma Program since 2013.

He has a four-year degree in criminology from the University of Toronto, a diploma in adult education from St. Francis Xavier University and an M.A. in leadership from the University of Guelph.

He is a strong proponent of practical, accessible, and relevant developmental and educational opportunities for present and future members of police services and public safety practitioners. He spent much of his career working in the areas of administrative and regulatory law and has been teaching provincial law for 20 years. He was attracted to Provincial Offences: Essential Tools for Law Enforcement because of its practical approach to applying diverse legislative tools to a resolve a wide variety of important community safety issues and problems. He is very pleased to be able to contribute to the excellent work of Dan Gilbert and Peter Maher in the latest edition of Provincial Offences.
