Daisy-Mae Hamelinck

Daisy-Mae Hamelinck completed her Master of Arts in the Department of Sociology at McMaster University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours, Wilfrid Laurier University), Bachelor of Education (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto), and a Social Service Worker Diploma (Fanshawe College).

Daisy has 10 years of social service work experience and has taught for almost 15 years in post-secondary settings. Daisy started her teaching career at McMaster University in 2003, helped launch the Community Service Worker program at triOS College in 2005, and became faculty head in 2006. Daisy also received the award for Instructor of the Year (Faculty of Healthcare) across all triOS College campuses in Ontario in 2006. She is also an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with the Ontario College of Teachers since 2005.

She is currently teaching at Western University and Fanshawe College, primarily in the Sociology and Liberal Studies departments. Most of her teaching career has taken place at Conestoga College, where she frequently taught the following courses: Student Success for Higher Learning, Health and Wellness—A Better You, Introduction to Sociology and Introduction to Psychology. Daisy has taught the Interpersonal and Group Dynamics course (using the second edition) almost 20 times in the last four years at Conestoga College.

As a two-time cancer survivor, Daisy presents (by request) for the Terry Fox Foundation and the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame on developments in cancer research. Recently, she opened her own success/life coaching business called Your New Leaf and is a Student Success Coach at triOS College. It is in these settings that many of the concepts presented in this book have become popular life-skills workshops in the community.
