Christopher Essert

Christopher Essert (BA, JD, LLM, JSD) is a professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where he teaches tort law and property law. He is the author of Property Law in the Society of Equals (Oxford University Press, 2024), as well as of a range of chapters in edited collections and articles in journals such as Philosophy & Public Affairs, Legal Theory, Law & Philosophy, the Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence, and the University of Toronto Law Journal. He is a member of the International Advisory Panel for the American Law Institute’s Restatement of the Law (Fourth), Property, and a Faculty Affiliate of the University of Toronto School of Cities. He has previously held appointments at Queen’s University, UCLA, and Auckland Law School.
