Christina Szurlej
Christina Szurlej, PhD, is an Associate Professor at St. Thomas University, where she teaches in the human rights program and directs the Atlantic Human Rights Centre. She earned her PhD in international human rights law (Middlesex University, 2013), her MA in human rights (University of Essex, 2009), and a BA in political science and conflict resolution studies, and certificate in public policy and administration (University of Winnipeg, 2005). Before teaching at St Thomas University, she has served higher education institutions in teaching, research, and/or administrative capacities at St. Thomas University, the University of Winnipeg, Canadian Mennonite University, Middlesex University, the University of Essex, and the National University of Ireland, Galway, as well as worked for the Government of Manitoba in the departments of justice, finance, and intergovernmental affairs in a research/administrative capacity. International human rights law and the international human rights monitoring mechanisms of the United Nations are her primary areas of expertise. Her current research examines issues ranging from access to education for refugee children in Nauru through to addressing genocide against the Rohingya in Myanmar.
