DEBORAH berLACH

Deborah Berlach is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer currently focusing on professional liability matters and class actions.  Deborah is one of the founding partners at Stieber Berlach, a Toronto insurance defence firm with close to 30 lawyers. In addition, she has advocated her clients’ rights before administrative tribunals such as the Ontario Human Rights Commission. 

She graduated from McGill Law School and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1984. She has practiced continuously since her call. From very early on in her career she has enjoyed an insurance-based practice, which includes litigating professional liability claims, commercial disputes, monitoring and defending class action, and advising on and litigating coverage disputes. In later years, much of her trial work has been focused on complex medical malpractice claims, coverage applications and class actions. 

Through the years, she has presented as a speaker and/or moderator at many client seminars, professional organization seminars, the Advocates’ Society, and the Ontario Bar Association.   

BARBARA LEGATE

Barbara Legate is the founder of Legate Injury Lawyers. Her practice concentration is with infants, children, and youth who are injured through car crashes, recreational mishap, occupiers’ liability and medical mistake. She has represented compromised infants with cerebral palsy, pre-schoolers who have been severely injured in car crashes, babies who have not been attended to properly following birth, and young people suffering un-diagnosed stroke, among others. Barbara chaired a program put on by the Law Society on representing injured children. She is certified as a specialist in civil litigation by the LSO, on the LSO Civil Rules Committee, and has received the following awards and designations.
