David Matas
David Matas is a Winnipeg international human rights, immigration, and refugee lawyer. He is the author, co-author, or co-editor of 11 other books. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2008 and nominated in 2010 for the Nobel Peace Prize. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, representing appellants or interveners in 23 different cases. He has taught immigration and refugee law, civil liberties, and international law at the Faculty of Law, University of Manitoba and constitutional law at McGill University. He was chair of the Immigration Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association in 1996-97 and was president of the Canadian Council for Refugees from 1991-95. He is co-founder and chair of the NGO Human Rights Action Group.
