Jill Taylor
Jill Taylor is a lawyer, adjudicator, and nurse. She has practised primarily in health law, health policy, family law, and personal injury. As an adjudicator, she presided over pre-trial criminal matters and trials of provincial offences in the Provincial Court of Alberta as a justice of the peace and as chair of two provincial adjudicative boards.
Over her career, Jill identified many challenges in working with highly traumatized clients, including the high degree of impact on both clients and the legal team working to support these individuals. When approached to work as lead counsel for a mass tort case involving women who had experienced gender-based trauma in the workplace, she recognized the need for change in the delivery of legal services to this unique population. After consultation with professionals in social work and psychology, Jill developed a trauma-informed interview method and process that has now been generalized to other areas requiring sensitive and effective information gathering.
