Kasandra Cronin
Judge Kasandra Cronin, BA (Hons), LLB, was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1999. She played field hockey for UC Berkeley, where she received her undergraduate degree, and graduated from the University of British Columbia’s law school in 1998. She practised her entire career as a criminal defence lawyer until her appointment in 2022 to the British Columbia Provincial Court. She received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 2019. Her practice always included traveling across the province assisting Indigenous clients and engaging with Gladue issues. Kasandra also worked occasionally as an ad hoc prosecutor and a special prosecutor. She was involved in many sexual assault trials and offences involving violence against children and presented on these subjects at the Provincial Court Judge’s Conference and Crown Counsel practice group for vulnerable victims. She was active within the legal community and involved with many organizations, including the Elizabeth Fry Society, West Coast LEAF, the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers, and the Canadian Bar Association. She was a founding member and, until her appointment, chair of the Criminal Defence Advocacy Society.
