Mona Duckett
Mona Duckett, KC, is the senior partner in the Edmonton-based criminal law firm of Dawson, Duckett, Garcia & Johnson. Mona has defended criminal cases since her call to the Alberta bar in 1984. She conducts trials and appeals at all court levels. Mona also maintains a professional disciplinary practice and conducts fatality inquiries and provides opinions and witness advice. Mona served as a bencher with the Law Society of Alberta from 2000 to 2006, finishing her tenure as Law Society president. She has been a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 2003 and served on the Board as regent from 2017 to 2021. She is a member and past president of Edmonton’s Criminal Trial Lawyers Association.
Mona lectures for continuing legal education programs for lawyers, judges, and police. She is a sessional instructor in advocacy at the University of Alberta Law School where she also taught professional responsibility and advanced criminal law. She served for 16 years as a member of the faculty of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s National Criminal Law Program. She has served on numerous boards for the legal profession and has always made time for volunteering.
