Simon Verdun-Jones
Simon Verdun-Jones helped establish Simon Fraser University’s School of Criminology, where he taught for over 40 years. A graduate of the Yale Law School, he published extensively in the areas of criminal law and mental health. He advocated for individuals living with complex co-occurring mental-health disorders, addictions, and other major life challenges, especially in their interaction with the criminal justice system. His commitment to teaching was recognized in 2004 by his receipt of SFU’s Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor Verdun-Jones wrote seven editions of Criminal Law in Canada: Cases, Questions, and the Code, the leading undergraduate criminal law text in Canada.
