Emond has transitioned our ebooks to the VitalSource Bookshelf platform to increase accessibility.  VitalSource is a global leader in education technology solutions, and they help publishing partners like Emond, deliver and distribute affordable, accessible, and impactful learning experiences. 

Emond's ebooks now benefit from Bookshelf's Assistive Technology such as:

  • Compatibility with screen readers, such as Microsoft Narrator, JAWS, NVDA, TalkBack, VoiceOver, and more

  • Common accessibility shortcuts with our scrubber bar, table of contents, and search that make navigation easy

  • Built-in text-to-speech functionality with Read Aloud

  • A choice of fonts, including OpenDyslexic fonts, so users can read in comfort

  • Content controls, including altering screen colours, night mode, and magnification

For Emond’s online content (practice tests, courses and online supplements) we use Moodle LMS.  Moodle LMS is built according to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) level AA. 

This means you should be able to:

  • Enlarge text by zooming in. 

  • Read the text and view images that have a high contrast to their background. 

  • Change the background and text colour and fonts using browser plugins. 

  • Navigate the website using only a keyboard. 

  • Navigate using a screen-reader and speech-recognition software. 

  • Listen to texts and image descriptions using a screen-reader (such as NVDA).

Student accommodation needs that are not met through purchasing an ebook on the VitalSource Bookshelf platform, can be made through your school’s Accessibility Services Centre.
