John Dickie
John Dickie is the senior partner in the law firm Dickie & Lyman LLP. John earned a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours Economics) from Carleton University in 1977, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from McGill University in 1981. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1983.John practises landlord and tenant law (for landlords), rent control, property tax law, and government relations; he has practised residential rent control and landlord and tenant law since 1982. He acts for many of the largest residential landlords in Ottawa, as well as many landlords of medium- and small-sized buildings. John has represented many property owners and managers before the Landlord and Tenant Board (and its predecessors), Assessment Review Board, the Ontario Municipal Board, and the Divisional Court. John has also represented numerous landlord groups and individual clients in government relations with Ontario cities, several provinces, and the federal government and its agencies.John is the Chair of the Rent Control Committee of the Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO), the Chair of the Eastern Ontario Landlord Organization (EOLO), and the President of the Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations (CFAA).John has also instructed at the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada, at Carleton University, and at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa. As well as writing for Emond Montgomery Publications, John has written and presented material for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the County of Carleton Law Association, Real Estate Board of Ottawa-Carleton, the Ontario Real Estate Association, EOLO, FRPO, and CFAA.
