Emond Publishing's Commitment to Indigenous Education and Community Support

Emond Publishing's Commitment to Indigenous Education and Community Support

At Emond Publishing, we believe that education is a powerful tool for change and empowerment. Our commitment to fostering opportunities for Indigenous students is a cornerstone of our mission. Through our collaborations with Indigenous platforms, national charities, and by offering student bursaries, we aim to support the educational aspirations of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals across Canada. Emond is proud to highlight our ongoing work and partnerships, particularly with Indspire, an Indigenous national charity dedicated to investing in the education of Indigenous peoples.

Partnering with Indspire: Amplifying Impact

Indspire is at the forefront of enhancing educational opportunities for Indigenous students. The Building Better Futures: Bursaries and Scholarships program provides crucial financial support to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students throughout Canada. This program is a testament to Indspire's commitment to long-term benefits for individuals, their families, communities, and the nation as a whole. Every donation to Indspire is matched by the Government of Canada, effectively doubling the support available to students. This matching initiative significantly amplifies the positive impact, ensuring that more students can pursue their educational dreams without financial barriers.

The Emond Publishing Indigenous Student Bursary

As part of our dedication to supporting Indigenous education, we offer the annual Emond Publishing Indigenous Student Bursary. This bursary provides $4,400 in funding to an Indigenous student enrolled in a Canadian law school with a keen interest in criminal law or criminal justice. Thanks to the Government of Canada's matching program, the total funding available to each recipient is $8,800. This substantial support can make a significant difference in the academic and professional journey of Indigenous law students.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to David Schermbrucker, Randy Schwartz, Mabel Lai, and Nader Hasan, the authors of Search and Seizure, for their generous support, which makes this bursary possible.

Celebrating Our Past Recipients

We take great pride in acknowledging the achievements of our past bursary recipients:

  • 2022-2023: Mary-Charlet Lathlin, University of Manitoba

  • 2021-2022: Amanda Vick, University of Victoria

These outstanding students have demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a strong commitment to their communities and a passion for criminal justice. We are excited to see the positive impact they will undoubtedly make in their future careers.

SAVE20GIVE20: Supporting Indspire Through Book Sales

In addition to our bursary program, each summer we host a special sale to further support Indspire's mission. During our "SAVE20GIVE20" sale, Emond+ Members enjoy a 20% discount on all regular-priced and in-stock Emond titles. For every purchase made during this event, Emond matches the 20% discount with an equivalent donation to Indspire. This initiative allows our customers to contribute to a meaningful cause while expanding their own professional libraries.

A Shared Vision for a Brighter Future

Our collaboration with Indigenous communities, national charities, and the provision of student bursaries is driven by a shared vision of a brighter, more equitable future. We are committed to continuing this vital work, fostering educational opportunities, and supporting the next generation of Indigenous leaders in the legal field and beyond.

We invite you to join us in this mission. Whether through participating in our sales events, or spreading the word about these opportunities, your support can make a tangible difference in the lives of Indigenous students across Canada.
