The Comprehensive Bar Exam Preparation Manual
The Ontario licensing exams consist of two open-book exams: the barrister exam, and the solicitor exam. Each exam is 4 hours and 30 minutes in length and comprises 160 multiple-choice questions. Candidates are expected to independently read and study LSO-issued reference materials to prepare for the exams, and may create additional supporting materials such as indexes and summaries to supplement them.
As you begin preparing for the Ontario licensing exams, you will likely have many questions about how to study effectively, what types of reference materials and study aids you’ll need, and what to expect on exam day. We have published The Comprehensive Bar Exam Preparation Manual to help answer these questions and walk you through the exam preparation process from start to finish.
